Left the family to make their own way to yet another music festival in the park. (Pissed with summer festivals now!)
Still arrive too late for low tide, bugger. Wind looked good and sea better than yesterday however and the place was jammed packed with sailors. all the usual crew. Great thoughtful car parking saved the day as me and Andy Mex + 2 other late comers had parking spaces easily as well as trailer space, we all had trailers!
Rigged 6.7 Hellcat (taped yesterday hole) / JP Magic ride pro 111L. Its wide but thin. The wind was freshening so had cranked the 6.7 just past the over power mark, and I think that was fatal. After launching I cranked the power on to go broad and hit some speed for the first run incase the water chopped up more and within a few seconds heard that familiar gunshot crack from the mast and yep it snapped in 1/2, not at the clamp but below it. The mast is 2008 and am using it with a 2013 Pryde sail, and I think Pryde switched from flextop stiff base to Constant curve. Think the North crank extension is too easy in downhauling beyond max if you want. The mast was 80% and bending in the wrong position. The swim was OK as Neil rescued me with his long board (cheers N') and was maybe 100M off the shore. Amazingly the sail looked OK although haven't checked it properly. Rigged 6.0 but didn't really get going except in the gusts. The Magic ride pro is a nice board. It does bounce in rough water but feels good at speed as the front clears the water. Its 239 long so once in straps it skim and feels pretty quick, so potential is good. Switch to the 125L Hawk as too many lulls. Didn't like it at all, too bouncy, feels sluggish as it quite heavy and spins out on chop, when my other boards just bites and go faster. Think its adious Hawk, unless I have a decent sail on it. Didn't sail long, cos I don't like these rough sea state and low tide was too early for me who likes his sleep. Don't think I will buy another used mast from now on. The wind freshen but the sea was worst so didn't dare go out again. Got whale and chips from Cordy's and went Back to the spa which was full some jaw dropping day visitors, who probably wondered why this guy in the cuzzi stunk of fish and chips!
